Eight

Lunch was amazing. Pasta mama with sunny eggs and parmesan cheese complimented by a fresh garden salad and mimosas. It was an easy meal, shared with the two men I felt strangely comfortable around after the ménage that almost happened on my kitchen floor. My belly was full and my skin was flushed with the champagne, but I still didn’t have my answers.

“So who’s he?” I asked when the dishes had been cleared, and Nicholas began working on setting up the massage table in the front room. My apartment had an open floor plan, so I had a clear view of him from my spot at the kitchen table. “What does he have to do with me, and does he have a name?”

“Yeah, he has a name,” Nicholas called over his shoulder as he set up some bottles of what I assumed were massage lotions on the end table in the front room. “But we aren’t allowed to say it.” He pulled a thick fluffy towel from the bag that he had brought with him and laid it across the massage table. It was a professional set up all right, Nicholas knew what he was doing.

“What do you mean you aren’t allowed to say it?”

“He means you aren’t allowed to know it.” Joshua moved around the kitchen, cleaning up after lunch and pulling more food out of the refrigerator, prepping for dinner, I assumed. “Part of your issue is wanting to not be in charge for once. Well, this guy is definitely used to being in charge. Apparently not knowing his name just adds to the mystery.”

“I don’t know how comfortable I am with that.” And I didn’t. That sounded scary.

“Relax Elizabeth, we wouldn’t let anything bad happen to you.” This was from Nicholas, who had finished setting up and was waiting patiently for me to join him in the other room. “And I don’t get a bad vibe from this guy. I think he knows just what you need, more so than we do, and I think it will be good for you. Besides, no one is going to do anything you don’t want. That’s the hard and firm rule we all abide by.”

Hard and firm. Did he really just say that?

By the grin that stretched across his face I knew he meant the double entendre. Silly Nicholas. I would be sad when he had to leave. When they both had to leave, and I would have to go back to my normal life and pretend that I had never met them. But that was hours from now. I still had plenty of hours of sunlight left to enjoy their company.

“Wesley wouldn’t match you with someone he didn’t trust to have your best interests in mind,” Joshua said the words firmly. I could tell by his tone that he meant every one of them. I envied their absolute trust in the older man. I didn’t have that kind of trust in anyone, and that was probably the biggest part of my problem.
